WANDERING CATTLE IN GREEN ISLAND BOROUGH.

- ' TO THE EDITOK. g IB; —A short time' ago I noticed that the'local constable instituted some prosecutions in connection with the nuisance of wandering cattle in Green Island. There is no need for him to stay his hand. One has only to walk round the borough to see the number of offenders in this respect. One resident possesses cattle which can bo seen roaming about, morning or evening, almost every day in the week. If they are not in someone’s garden, then their heads are racking through fences, slackening wires, etc. One evening last week I noticed two of these cattle being put out of a resident’s front gate in John street. I have since been told that is by no moans an uncommon occurrence... Complaints to the Borough Council and the local police have had very little effect. lam certain that in no other"'borough in Otago would this nuisance be tolerated to the extent that it is here. Anyone can keen cows if they graze them on “ the long paddock.” We are advised to got cut to the suburbs, but if this is the way we get treated it is better to stay in the city.—l am, otc., A Ratepaieh.
