THE LATEST RETURNS. * ■ r LIBERALS’ BIG MAJORITY. Pr«w Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, December 6. Early returns of the Canadian elections indicate that the Liberals are making heavy gains in the eastern provinces. Several Ministers in the present Government were defeated. The Farmers’ Party appears weak and the Liberals strong in Ontario, where they had not expected to make gains. Mr Mackenzie King (the Liberal leader) was elected. Returns from 56 out of 235 total seats show that 44 Liberals were returned, nine Conservatives, and two Farmers. Later returns show the nosition to be: Liberals 120, Conservatives 43, Farmers 37, Labour two. The chief issue of the election is the tariff. The Liberals are advocating a tariff for revenue purposes only. The Conservatives propose a high tariff, and they are preaching against economic domination by the United States. (Received Dec. 8, at 8.20 p.m.j The final returns show that the Liberals overwhelmed the Government, taking 121 seats, the Conservatives Securing 53, farmers 58, and Independents 2. The Prime Minister (Mr Meighen) lost his seat with seven other members of his Cabinet. Ontario which is usually a Conservative stronghold, elected ■Mr M’Kenzie King, the Liberal leader, Mias MacPhail, a Progressive, was elected for the South-west Grey District of Ontario.
