THE WANAKA WEST RUN.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The Wauaka West run, of some 54,000 acres, including the reserve, is wonderfully 'well grassed and watered. It is admirably adapted for subdivision, having several natural boundaries which would require very little fencing. It also includes some 3000 acres of splendid land, rich river flats and swamps, easily drained and brought under cultivation. Yet, in the face of these indisputable facts and the request of landless petitioners, the Otago Land Board reports the rum as not suitable for subdivision. It would be hard to find a more gross error of judgment. The board prefers to extend the license not to soldiers but to wealthy trustees in keeping for boys when they grow up and become of age, the youngest of them, the Minister says, being 12j years old. We have read a lot about Clifton, Teviot, Mount Pisa, etc. Mistakes do happen, as we must all admit. But an attempt to hand over 54,000 acres.of Crown land, unincumbered except fob a bit of fencing, directly against the interest and progress of the community, surely caps the lot—l am. etc.. Landless. November 30.
