THE TAPANUI BRANCH RAILWAY.

TO TIIK EDITOR.

Sir,— The Tapanui branch time-table is drafted specially to suit Invercargill, whilst Dunedin is unfairly treated. Invercargill can be reached any day inside five hours, whilst the journey to Dunedin takes 10 hours, instead of five under the old time-table. On Saturdays business people can get four hours in Invercargill and return the same night. Dunedin cannot be done in loss than three days by the ordinary (present) service. Surely this is unfair to Dunedin, Tapanui traders considering that most of the local business is done in the Otago city. If the down trains left on alternative days to catch the north express, and the other three days to meet the smith express at Waipahi, both centres would be served, but the Invercargill manager will not alter his programme at the request of the people. In the meantime the train hands are idle half the time, although in receipt of full pay.—l am, etc., W. Quj.t, Tapanui, September L.
