QUEEN’S THEATRE
The new programme at the Queen’s Theatre is bedded :by “Peaceful Valley," the hero of the story being Hosiah. Howe, who has a farm in tne valley, _%nd is trying to sustain his mother and sister Martha, u..d his, dog “Whiskers.” The members ofthe Howe famliy are very mucn attached;, to each other.. Margaret is attracted by the city ways of Ward Andrews and turns away to the city with him; her elopement nearly breaking Hosiah’s heart. < Andrews happens to stop at Howe farm for a drink of water, and u is on this occasion that he discovers that Martha is a very pretty girl, and that the well, whence the water is drawn, possesses valuable medicinal qualities. He therefore not only induces the country rosebud to run away with him, but obtains an option over the property, through the instrumentality of Dr Hand, who happens to have an attractive daughter named Virginia. Hosiah meets this young lady and tails violently in- love with her. Finding that Martha has made a “bolt” of it with Andrews, Hosiah follows them to the city and makes diligent search for his sister, but cannot find her. Later Martha returns home of her own free win; having escaped from Andrews before he was able to trick her into a fictitious marriage, She finds how the neighbours regard . her, and is afraid to face her mother and brother, and is prevented from committing suicide by her brother. Hosiah, on meeting Andrews, throws him over the hotel rail, and when ho finds he is the man who has induced Martha to run away _ with him, he puts double strength into Ins fighting. Another thing that strengthens his arm is the knowledge that Andrews is trying to wm Virginia. There is a final settlement of affairs, and Hosiah becomes rich through the money-making qualities of the old well, and wins Virginia.
