MISCELLANEOUS CABLES
Frau Association—By Telegraph—Copyright Dr Harding, aged seventy-six, father of President Harding, practising as a physician at Marion, Ohio, motored to Monroe, Michigan, with Miss Alice Stephens, aged fifty-three, his office nurse for many years, where they were quietly married by a Presbyterian minister. President Harding expressed surprise when his secretary informed him that his father had suddenly married again, as he had not been informed of his plans. His father had been a widower for many years. Mr J. I. Macnherson stated in the House of Commons that 46,150 war pensioners had died since disability pensions were granted. The French and Belgian Ministerial representatives have communicated with Mr Massey with a view to negotiating commercial reciprocity with New Zealand. Mr Massey proposes to consult the New Zealand Parliament.
The number of those wholly unemployed in Great Britain on August 5 totalled 1,738,000, a reduction of 42,500 compared with the previous week. The Rome correspondent of the Times reports that Caruso’s will, dated .Ta.mia.ry 1919, was read in the presence of the witnesses and relatives. His widow was absent. His inheritance is divided amongst his two sons and his brother. He bequeathed to his widow only the portion which was due to her according to law. The relatives, however, have agreed to afriendly division. This will was an exact copy of that which was foflnd in Naples after Caruso’s death. It is conjectured that the report that a new will was made after the birth of his youngest daughter is unfounded.
