ENTERTAINMENT AT WYCHWOOD

Mrs Lindo Ferguson has on' many occasions placed "Wychwood,” her home at Musselburgh Rise, at the disposal of the public for a variety of purposes, all of which have been in the direction of assisting in some shape or form one worthy object or another. Last evening “Wychwood” was the place of assemblage of a large number of ladies and gentlemen, who turned out on such an inclement night for'two very good and substantial reasons. The one was that an entertainment on unique and attractive lines had been organised, that promised to be well worth attending, and the other that the object of the entertainment was a good one, in. as_ much as it was to raise funds to assist in improving St. Paul's grounds. A fairly substantial charge was made for the privilege of witnessing the entertainment, but that did not deter a large number from making a little self-sacrifice in the direction of leaving the warmth and comfort of home, for which they were amply _ compensated. The result of the effort, which it is understood emanated from one or two Dunedin ladies, whose object was made possible of attainment through the kindness of Mrs Ferguson, was very satisfactory, and would without doubt have been still more satisfactory under more favourable weather conditions. The substantial portion of the evening’s entertainment consisted of the play. . “Harlequin and Columbine.” by Barrie, and “The Fortune Teller.” In the former Miss Barclay npix’.cred as Columbine, Mr G. Turner as Harlequin. Mr F. S. T. Little as Clown, Mrs C. E. Statham as Pantaloon, and Mias A. Throp ns Baby Clown. The play was admirably presented by all taking part and was thoroughly enjoyed ; the applause being freouent. The pianoforte music incidental to the play was supplied by Mrs Mason. In “The Fortune Teller”—a two-character sketch— Madame florciere was taken bv Mrs M'Eibbon. and Miss Blank bv Mrs Doorlev. The evening proved to be a very pleasant one.
