The grass was open for fast work and provided splendid going. A good many spectators and owners were present. Pit Prop and Royal Mac were first out, keeping well together all the way. They got to the end of seven furlongs in Imin 31 2-ssec. Te Oro went twice round. Royal Star, assisted by Cave Bock over the last five furlongs, ran six furlongs in Imm 19aec. Scrimmage and Winning Hit dashed over half a mile along the back. Macduff and Headlong were together at the end of six furlongs, done in Imin 19 2-ssec. Lord Ashley and Demonstrate wore slightly in advance of Red Gown at the end of six furlongs, which was run in Imin 21 4-ssec. Manawaponga, with L. Hcgarty up, gave a good exhibition in a round over big fences. Carnbrca and Bandy finished together several lengths ahead of Micky Free, over the concluding stages of seven furlongs, run in Imin 31 2-ssec. Some Kid sprinted: half a mile in Slsce, going nicely. At a special mooting of the New Zealand Cricket Council a motion, moved by Poverty Bay, was carried —“ That no challenges for the Hawke Cup and Hoathcote-WilHams Shield 1>? received before October 1 each Reason, and that the committee reserve the right to arrange priority of challenges.” A Wellington motion, which was lost, was —“ That the Plunkot Shield rules be revised so that 30 per cent, of the profit be paid to tho visiting association, with a minimum of £3O, anv loss to bo borne by the local association.”

It was reported that the tour of the Australian team would, wlien accounts were finally settled, show n credit of over .£IOOO. Regarding the visit of an English team, it was slated that the four Australian Associations would allow the council 75 per cent, of tlic receipts. Matches would bo played at Auckland and Dunedin at the council's risk, the council taking 10 per cent, of the profits, if any. Cablegrams, which were being exchanged with tho Marylcbone Club, showed that there was every probability of an attractive team licing sent out. The personnel has not yet been disclosed.

Homibrook) broke the British professional hedd-out weightlifting record. He lifted 52GiIb 05 times with his right aim ami 61} with his left. Homibrook was injured in France in 1919, and the doctor stated that he would never regain tho use of hin left arm. Hornibrook cured himself in three months by an intensive course of massage.—A. and N.Z. Cable. [Prior to the war Mr Homibrook successfully conducted a school of physical culture in Christchurch In 1912 be captained a tug-of-war team composed of his pupils in a tournament held in Dunedin in 1912. AN UNAVOIDABLE DELAY. NEW- YORK, July 28. (Received July 28, at 9.40 p.m.) It is announced that the Mauretania fire is causing delay to the Indian team for the Davis Cup. This has resulted in the postponement for one week of the match between India and Japan. The teams will meet at Chicago on, August 18, 19, and 20. GREYMOUTH, July 28. * The annual conference of the Dominion Boxing Association, held to-day, dealt with numerous remits.

It was resolved by 20 votes to 4 (the minority being Canterbury delegates) that the constitution of the council be altered do permit of each centre having direct representation thereon. It was recommended that the championship (or 1922 be allotted to Auckland, also that championships be held alternately in the North and South Islands, and that the 1923 championships be alloted to .Dunedin. It was resolved that secondary schools’ boxing championships for the dominion be instituted.

It was decided that oil centres shall register their colours. Ashburton was constituted a centre. Several remits were referred to special committees. f

The Christchurch delegates referred to St. Patrick’s Sports Association, and objected to more than one promoting body in each town.—lt was resolved that the conference is of opinion that there should be only one promoting body in each town, end the Minister of Internal Affairs be asked to gazette a regulation to that effect under the Police Offences Act.
