AMERICA’S BID FOR SUPREMACY. BRITISH NAVY TO BE ECLIPSED. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, February 14. (Received Feb. 15, at 10.30 p.m.) Mr Brooks (Illinois) has introduced an amendment to the Naval Appropriation Bill in the House of Representatives providing that Senator Harding (Presidentelect) must call a disarmament conference before any funds are available for the continuance of the United States 1916 navß building programme.—A. and N.Z. Cable. (Received Feb. 15, at 10.30 p.m.) An amendment to the Naval Appropriations Bill was defeated, and the entire measure was passed providing funds to carry out the 1916 building programme, which, when completed, will make the United States navy larger than Great Britain’s. The measure, however, reduces the enlisted marine personnel from 170,000 to 120,000.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
