WAIKOUAITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Borough Council was held on Monday night, when there were present—the Mayor (Mr G. L. J. Kerr), Ors G. Maxwell, S. Vanes. B. Allcock, W. M'Dougali, A. WillianirVu, S. R. Smith, and E. Davis. The clerk directed to write to Mesys Wilson and Umbers, Dunedin, with regard to damage to footpath on Main road caused by a motor. A warrant with regard to the publication of the balance sheet, a letter from the inspector of noxious weeds, and a letter from the Minister of Public Works with regard to expenditure of grant for the Main road were received. The health officer received a reply that the creek has been cleaned and that the dairy factory will not allow whey to run into the borough drain. In connection with the carting of rotten rook, the contractor is to be notified that he must proceed with the supply of metal from the Matanaka quarry under the direction of the Works Committee. A letter from the Government Insurance Department was received, and it was agreed to pay pro rata at the increased rate. A letter from the St. John Ambulance Association was left in the hands of the Mayor. An increase of wages to the borough dayman was granted, and the dayman’s report was approved. Unpaid rates: A penalty of 10 per cent, to be imposed after March 1, and it was decided that the police constable be asked to prosecute under the borough by-laws. An application from Mr A. Y. Park for water supply was granted at £3 _3s per annum, under, usual condition of pipe service. At a special meeting Mr Jamieson presented a requisition signed by a number of shopkeepers asking for no change from the Wednesday half-holiday.—Proposed by Cr Davis, seconded by Or Williamson, that Wednesday be the day for the half-holiday. —Carried.
