BRITISH BODY IN AMERICA

INAUGURAL MEETING.

(Received Jan. 31, at 8.30 p.m.) The British Empire Chamber of Commerce of the United States under charter from the Imperial Board of Trade held its inaugural meeting'. Kepresentatives of the English and Canadian Chambers were present. Mr Sheldon (Australian Commissioner) praised the enterprise of the members who had given the Chamber great financial support, and he predicted unqualified success for the body, which would fill a great need. The Chamber would constitute an authoritative body comprising many prominent men aAid firms of every class of commerce welded together, helping and guiding trade between' the Empire and the United .States. It would be another magnet, drawing two Englishspeaking peoples closer together. The chairman referred to the great reputation Mr Sheldon had won for himself in America.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
