THE IRISH TURMOIL

POLITICAL DEGRADATION,

SIR E. CARSON’S DENUNCIATION,

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 30.

(Received Jan. 31, at 7.15 p.m.) Sir Edward Carson, speaking at Torquay, resented'-the action of the Radical press and others in condemning reprisals while ignoring crimes and provoking them. When he read of an old college friend being baycmetted and buried alive, and simultaneously of an English statesman drawing attention to the reprisals, he considered that the lowest possible degradation of political life had been reached. Sir Edward Carson added: “Let them relinquish murders and we will relinquish reprisals. The day will come when Ireland will crawl to Great Britain to restore her to the United Parliament.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.

(Received Jan. 31, at 9.10 p.m.) Continuing, Sir Edward Carson said: “If the South and West ' of Ireland said to Ulster, *We must run our own. island and we must live together. We shall no longer preach hatred of England, but shall co-operate with you and the rest of the Empire, v then I undertake that we shall accept the offer and shake hands for the sake of England, Ireland, and the Empire.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
