HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The following is a summary of the various reports to be presented to the meeting ot the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board on Thursday evening:— The Hospital Committee reports having notified all the insurance companies in Dunedin- that in future application will require to be made direct to tne secretary for any certificate in connection with accident insurance required for patients in the Dunedin Hospital, tor which there will be a fee of 10s bd. A copy of the report of the medical superintendent on the finding of the Court of Inquiry in connection with repairs to Sidcup Ward has been forwarded to the Minster of Defence. The Benevolent Committee’s reports having dealt with 39 cases for relief at a weekly cost of £25 7s. Casual cases for relief amounting to £235 13s 6d hay© been approved. The board’s previous decision m declining application for payment of maintenance of an inmate in St. Joseph’s Industrial School, Upper Hutt, has been adhered to. During the last month 11 persons have been admitted to, 7 discharged from, and 5 deaths have occurred fit the Otago Benevolent Institution. At present 146 inmates remain. The Finance Committee reports that the town clerk, Port Chalmers, has been advised that the suggested ferection of a women’s ward at Port Chalmers will be considered with the board’s estimates for the next year. In connection with the inquiry from the Waihemo County Council as to terms upon which this board would be willing to establish a cottage hospital in the Palmerston district, the matter has been referred to the department for advice. Pay-aheets and accounts have been passed for payment amounting to: General account £9286 8s sd, Campbell interest account £3O 19s. The bank balances are as follow: General account £25,501 Is 2d (dr).
