POLICEMAN'S DAY OFF

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON,. October 21. Claims of -members of the Police Force to more consideration in the matter of time oft' were urged upon the Minister m Charge of the Department (the Hon. E. P. Loe), in a question which Mr E. Kellett (Dunedin North) a6ked him in the House of Representatives this afternoon. Mr Ivellett said that some weeks ago lie had asked the Minister if he would take into consideration the grafting of members of the force one day 'off in seven, and also why it was that .the matrons in charge of police stations had had the cost of living bonuses taken from them, and had not been included in the list of those to rcceivo increases _ of pay. He wished now to ask the Minister if he could give any information on the subject. Mr Lee reminded his questionor that his in<piiries were among quite a number that were put when t.lre annual report of the department was under discussion. Note had been taken of the questions, and they had been referred to the Commissioner of Police for investigation. This was now under way. The particular request for one day off in seven was a large order, and, in regard to country districts, a difficult question. No report had yet been received from the commissioner.
