In the evening, when the recalls were hoard, and an attractive general programme was presented, Mr H. A. Ewing presided. Following arc tho results oi yesterday's competitions:— READJNG AT SIGHT (15 and under 18 years). Hiss Mario Himmel, 80 points 1 Miss Mazie Wood, 76 i>ointe 2Miae ii&rho Harrison, 75 points .. !'. .. 3 Highly commended: Miss Elva Baker and Miss bybil Baker, 74 points each. Other competitors: Aliss G. Mollison and Eda Spire, Messrs Eric Ewart and W. C. 'ihomton. PIANO DUET (Amateurs).—"Dance Oriental." Mies Neenia Kenny and Mr Sydney Swift, 81 points 1 Thcso were tlie only competitors. The judge said it was tt most excellent psrformuuce, balance beuig well maintained, phrasing good, pedalling well managed, and nuances observed. RECITATION, Ladies (Open).—"Sophie Perovskaya.' Miss .'cssie Gillies, 78 points 1 Miss NoUic M. Osborne, 77 points- .. .. a iiiss Vera Stevens, 76 points 3 Highly commended: M'leses Alice Campbell, Thelrnn, Simpson, Antonia Teecbner, and | ■a.. H. The Judge remarked that this was a very i oven performance, as would bo seen, by the j fact, tuat out o£ eight performers there were three prize-winners and four highly commended. The winner gave a good, virile rendering of tho piece. SACRED SOLO, Mezzo-Soprano (Amateurs). —"Beyond the Dawn." Miss Mollie Vickers and 'Miss Victoria Balk, 78 points (equal) 1 Miss Lily Monk, 72 points 3 Other competitors: Misses Louise Smith and Nellie M. Osborne, Mrs C. H. Kitehin, Misses Mary Wilson, Bessie Latta, Ivy West, and Linda West. The Judge remarked that the chief fault of all the competitors was a lack of control of the breathing, which was the crux of vocalisation. The third prize-winner niade etert. The firet prize-winners I both had fine voices, and their interpretation was satisfactory. HIGHLAND FLING (Boye under 12.) Malcolm Ribb, 71 points 1 Hugh ITArthur, 60 points .'. 2 lan M'Arthur, 18 points .: ..' 3 I'iie Judge remarked ihat the winner's performance was very creditable. The youngest competitor hod a long way to go, but was young, and promised' well. ' PIANO SOLO. (Amateurs).—"Automne" Mr Sydney H. Swift, 77 points .... 1 Miss Florrio Blyih, 76 points 2 Miss D. M. Gardiner, 70 points .. .'. .. 3 Miss Mary' Henderson was the only other competitor. The Judge remarked that the winner had pulled up sufficient oii his morning performance to gain him first prize. His phrasing was good. The second prize-winner's phras° ing was also good, but ehe lost balance at timt3 RECITATION, Snakespearian (Amateure, Gentlemen). —"Buckingham's Speech." W. The Judge remarked that this recitation should bo given in a ruthei subdued manner.' Most of the competitors were too aggressive. Tho winner 6truck the correct note. The Judge remarked that the winner had a very beautiful voke, but lost points for selection of song, and the third prize-winner might also have chosen a better song. The second prize-winner's voice was once or twice a little faulty in. the middle register. OPERATIC VOCAL SOLO, Gentlemen. Mr Walter James, "Infelice," 81 r>ointa .. 1 Mir W. N. Satterthwaite, "Take a Pair of "' Sparkling Eyes," 74' points .. .." .. 2 Tho Judge cautioned the winner against spreading his phrases, as it tended to an. unrythmical rendering. Tho second, prizetaker'e seleotion, which was well sung, was, though very pretty, scarcely operatic. SONG FOR JUNIOR GIRIiS (13 and under 16).—"Daddy's Sweetheart." Recalls: Veda. Brown, Dorothy Stentiford, and Ma,ggio Campbell. Other competitors: Annie Newman, Hazel Dunn, Mollie Andrews, Grace Knowles, Flossie Pickard, Heather Rapcr, Sybil Baker, Winnie Beck, Moira Coughlan, Eena Bardwell, A. C. Flaniauk, Evelyn Shepard, Alice Tait, and Rene Sumner. An error crept into our report of the violin solo competition (under 13 years) on Thursday. The correct placing of the competitors was: —Frank Martinelli, 72, 1; Lizzie Ritchie, 71. 2; James Bcath, 70, 3. Other competitors: C. Walker and Leonard Boredell.

TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME. To-day should prove one of the most interesting days of this year's festival, as the programme will be made up entirely of children's items. This morning's session will include recitation, piano solos, and dueta. The afternoon session should provide a high-class entertainment, and will include humorous recitations, children's action songs, children's duets, and Irish jigr; while the evening session will include the recalls from tho day session. i
