Williams, in opening his campaign in the Government interests for the Bay of Plenty scat at Kaiteratahi, said that the trouble over tho early closing , of the irolls showed how little the publio men of both sides of politics know of tho lack of communications in the electorate. Ho knew that tliero would bo heavy taxation for years to coma, and he held that those who wore able to pay should carry their full proportion of tho burden. Thcro woro many urgent State needs, but reafforestation did not loom largo enough in the State's programme. He said ho was a strong supporter of closer settlement, and members of his family had offered their properties on tho East Coast to tho Goveirnsment. ±iis motto in lifo-had always been, "Holp the next man and his family." They had done all tihoy, could to settlo tho Natives on the East Coast and to train, them as agriculturists, and ho had always beon on good tonne with Labour.
