Daily Times Office, Friday evening. Important ndvico respecting wheat and (lour control abroad was contained in private, lottors from London to Australian millers by tho latest English, mail. Ono report said: \Vith tho wheat and flour trades in the IT.S.A. decontrolled and practically certain that Canada will also bo decontrolled, wo think tho timo is coming to kcop in closer toucdi with ono another. It is also thought that the British Royal Commission on Wheat Supplies -will ranko their purchases this sido through tho flour importers. Wo emcerely hopo that you aro drumming it woll into your Govornniont officials that other countries aro inclined to foster their millers. This is especially tho case with tho U.S.A., who realise tho benfit of wheat offals for tho dairy farmer. It is, in fa-ct, stated that tho United! States will go t*> far as to not permit Europe- to buy an undue portion of wheat, for one reason to keep their mills working at home, and also to keop offals in good supply." LOCAL MARKETS. There is little business passing in lines of wheat, either for milling , or eetxl. A few lines of B grade Gnitons changed hands oarly in tho week at -Is 4£d, f.0.b.5.i., and there aro more buyers at this figure. Holders, however, aro now asking 4s 5d to 4a Gd. Inquiries aro chiefly from Canterbury merchants, who we desirous of covering forward solos. According , to advices from tho North Isknd, sufficient stocks aro held for immediate requirements. Tho demand for seed oats has fallen off, arid growers have now evidently secured tho quantity they require. Millers' prices are as follow:—Flour, £17 per ton; UtO'e, £13 10s; 50's, £19; 25's, £30. Bran, £S 15s per ton. Pollard, £10 15s. Pearl barley, £35. Oatmeal, £31 per ton. PRODUCE REPORT. The broken weather has prevented the cutting of chaff, but sufficient stocks are held in stores to meet tho demand, which is very limited. Good quality is realising up to £8 5s per ton, sacks extra., and medium. £7 10s to £3 per ton, ex store. Canterbury growers of potatoes have given up hope of finding an outlet to Australia, and aro now sending supplies freely to tho local market. Tho lesult is that prices are on tho downward grade. It is difficult to interest buyers at £5 per ton, sacks included, lor tho best quality. Medium and inferior lines are unsaleable. Canterbury onions show a further increase in price. Prices for eggs remain ■unaltered. Pigs are in keen demand. Current wholesale prices aro as follow: — Fowl wheat: Off the market Chaff: Sound oaten-shoaf, £8 to £8 sa; medium, £7 10s to £8. Potatoes: Prime, to £5; poor quality, hard to sell. Onions: Conterburj's, m> to 32s for choice quality. Eg-gs: Stamped, 2s; fresh, Is lid. The demand exceeds the supply. A line of oranges and bananas, ex Navua, is expected to be on tho market on Monday. Medium shipments of oranges, mandarins, pines, eto., ex Moana. should arrive from the north in time for the market on Monday morning. The Paloona arrived in Dunedin this afternoon with a fair quantity of South Australian grown, oranges, navels, and! lemons. Thi3 will go under the hammer to-morrow (Saturday) morning. Advice received from Auckland states that the latest bananas to arrive there, although sound and in good condition, were rather small. It 13 not thought that any of this fruit will reach the local market. Californian-grown oranges are in. good demand, but tho market is now almost clear of this fruit. Fresh supplies are duo to arrive- at Wellington, but it is not expected that the local portion mil reach here for over a week. Heavy supplies of cauliflowers have again reached the market. Last week's prices, however, were, fully maintained. Prices for rhubarb have receded dtaring the week, heavier supplies now coming forward bpmach, spring onions, and radishes are on the market, and realise sound prices.
