ELECTRICITY REPLACES STEAM.

Sept. 24, at '0.10 a.m.) The Department of Commerce learns that the Japanese railway authorities have decided to substitute electricity for steam on all lines within the empire at an estimated cost of 200,000,000 yen, and reducing the number of locomotives in the service by' 40 per cent.—A. and N.Z. TWO JAPANESE IMPRISONED.
