CARTERTON, Augnst 6. The South Island Country team met Wairarapa to-day in fine but oold weather. Wairarapa hud the advantage of a light breeze, and the game was characterised by forward play by both teams, Wairarapa being superior towards the end of the spell. The W airarapa backs commenced to work, and the South Island were compelled to force on a number of occasions. Prom a loose scramble the Wairarapa forwards gee possession, and worked the ball right into the Whites' (South Island) twenty-five, where James got possession, and scored. Shortly after, from a mark, Groube, for Wairarapa, goaled. In the second spell the White forwards showed to more advantage, and back play on both sides developed, making the game decidedly more interesting. Irorn brilliant passing from half way Groube ran in, and brought Wairarapa's 6core up to 9 points. The Whites returned to the attack, and pretty play enabled Nelson to score.
