Among new books of poetry promised for early publication are "October, and Other Poems," by .Robert Bridges, PoetLaureate, and "Enslaved, and • Other Poems," by John Masuiield. The author of "The Butterfly Man"—M. C. a new novel in the press called "A Woman Named Smith." This is described as "a charming love story containing an element of mystery centred round tne strange apparitions in an olu house, and treasure hidden in a secret chamber."

Mr Joseph Hergeshcimor, author of "Tin Three Black Penny s" and "Java Head," has a new story ready, called "Linda Condon."

"Esther Waters," Mr George Moore's masterpiece, which has been out of prim for a long time, is being added to the uniform edition of that writer s works.

A new edition lias beon published o "Social Evolution," by Benjamin Kidd, the book vvith which the author of "The Science of Power" made his reputation. Mr E. V. Lucas's latest volume has for its, title "Veirena in the Midst: A Kind of Story." It is in epistolary form, and introduces Mr Richard Haven, of "The Vermilion Box."

Mr fraiph Straus, whose "Scandalous Mr Waldo" and "Prison Without a Wall" linger longer in the memory of fiction lovers than most modern novels do, has published a new book called " Pengard Awake," described as a psychological mystery. The author of "The Setons," who hides a namo famous in the literary world under the pseudonym of "O. Douglas," has just completed a new story of Scottish life, which is to bear the title " Penny Plain." Professor Keyne's greatly discussed book, " The Economic Consequences of the Peace," is having a great circulation in the United States, over 50,000 .copies having been sold there in a few weeks. " The Life of Lord Kitohener," in three volumes, by Sir George Arthur, has just been published. It contains prefaces by Lord balisbury and Lord Haig. "Studies in Contemporary Poetry," by Mary C. Sturgeon, which has been out of print for some years, is to be reissued in a new and enlarged edition, with added chapters on Thomas Hardy, John Drinkwator, Michael Field, J. G. Squire, W. B. Yeats, and con-temporary women poets. The approaching visit to tho dominion of the general of the Salvation Army lends interest to a book called "Joy in {Sorrow: A Collection of Poem 9 of Consolation," selected by Miriam Booth, with an introductory note by her father, General Bramwell Booth.

"Spiritual Voioes in Modern Literature," by Trevor H. Davies, contains a series of studies on and interpretations of Masefield's " Everlasting Mercy," and other well-known works. • Of Mr Robert Graves's new book of poems, " Country Sentiment," the Times Literary Supplement says: "Mr Graves should certainly be taken seriously as a poet with a future before him.
