Ihe trophiea were presented by Miesera B. C. Reynolds, W. B. Brugh, aaid A. Nioolsom. On Saturday play was yell advanced in the earlier rounds, and it is hoped to finish tho tournament at the end of this week. Tho G-irla' eveote were-played off on the Anderson's Bay oourte. The clube repreeented were the Girls' High School, Arcierfiekl, Oolumbo, St. Dominies, and St. Hilda's Collegiate Sohools. The trophies for the girls' events were presented by Meears A. E. ' Hmrmway, B. S. Block, J. S. Sinclair, S. N. Brows, and the prescient of tio Jiznior Asaociation. Ninety-one gamea were played during the day, le&ring 52 to play,, sad it is hoped to finish tie tournament at Anderson's Bay next Saturday, playing all but the Bomi and final rounds in the morning, and these events in the afternoon, so that the girls' parents and friends of school tennis may have an opportunity of seeing the eoneluding games. In the Championship Singles, Miss Joan Jamiceon. of St. Hilda's, and Mies Pearl of the Girls' High School, played good tennis, and won all their rounds, Miss Joan Grove, of Colombo, showed a steady improvement in play aa the tourney advanced, and reached the eend-nnal round, niter beating girie who were placed above her in the handicap errata, and Miss Mavis Herbert, who is regarded as one of the most promising of the juniors, won her events, 7—2, 7—L The surprise of the day, however, was the play of Miss Sheila Todd, of St. Dominice. Sheila is little more than a child, and after winning her first rounds 7 — i, tnet the first girl of Cofrunba, and won the eet, 7—6. In the third round she met the first girl of St. Hilda's, and, although losing, the sot, 6 to 7, secured 41 strokes against her opponent's 47 The handicap events were played for points and the limit of the handicap fixed ; at onehalf the gome. With 78 girls competing, it woe inevitable that the fortune of the younger players in the first two rounds depended considerably on the luck of the draw. The girls, , however, do not favoar dividing the events into grades, but desire always to meet a better .player than themselves. In the third round the fairness of the handicaps became obvious, many of the sets having to be played advantage to decide the winner.
