TURNIPS FOR SOWING NOW. The praotioe of sowing some quickmaturing variety of Turnips, such as Devon Greystone, Mammoth Purple-top White, Lincoln Red Globe, and other kinds, has not up to the present received tho attention that their usefulness warrants. Theso varieties can be sown as late as the end of February with a reasonable chance of success, and under favourable conditions furnish a largo amount of feed highly suited to. the fattening of lambs or young wethers. RESULTS FROM QUICK-GROWING TURNIPS. Tho chief advantages derived from growing quick-growing varieties are:—(l) They can bo sown four weeks to six weeks later than mo<st other varieties; (2) being softfleshed, they are better suited to lambs and two-tooth wethers, whoso teeth are troublesome at this age,' and consequently theso kinds are more highly relished by them, whereas the harder varieties would bo quite unsuitable, as the lambs, especially, would be unable to break the roots owing to their teeth getting low by tho time they aro intended to be fed;, and (3) being quioker maturing, they can be fed off at an earlier date, thereby rendering tho land available for a cereal crop to follow. LATE TURNIPS ON LIGHT LAND. Some classes of lighter land are unsuitable for the cultivation of tho yellow or hard varieties, while the whites, especially tho above-named varieties, can be successfully _ grown on almost any class of land, providing there is an abundance of available plant food within easy reach of the crop.
