GAELIC SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held in the Orchestral Hall last evening. Tho hall was crowded, and encores were demanded from every performer; Chieftain William Duncan took the chair in the unavoidable absence of the chief, and extended a Highland welcome to the visitors. and particularly to the Invercargill and Balclutha Pipe Bands, who gave stirring renderings of Scottish airs during the evening. The programme was of a high order. The _ following participated:—Mrs M'lvor (uaelic songs, "Mari Bhan og" and " Faill-ill o agus Horo eils"); Master Robb (a fling); Mrs Blair and Mr Deaker (duets, "The Hunting Tower" and "Come Under My Plaidie"); Miss Ellis "In an Old-fashioned Town" and "Only a Flower"); Mr M'Beath ("Duthaich Mhio Levid "); Mr D. French (" Rolling Home " and another); Mr Green (" The Dear Old Songs" and ''Qood Night, My Starlight"); Chieftain K. Cameron ("Sarnidh stari _le Fionn-airidh "); Mr Daker (" The Wading of Lachlan M'Gra' and another); Miss Beula King (Seanntriubhais); Mr Murdo Nicolsem (Gaelic song); Mrs Blair (' O Sing To Me the Old Scotch Sangs '): Miss M'Callum ("Hail Caledonia" and Logie O'Buchan"); Miss M'Lennan (fling); Mr Robb ("The Wre House Mang the Heather"); Miss M'Komzie (a fling). Pipe-major Ra„msay delighted tho audience with the recital of humorous stories. Piper D. Bowman supplied the pipe music, and Mr Boyson acted as accompanist.
