Advice haa been, received that the departure of the Ruapehu from Wellington for England has been postponed from the original date, March 5, to March 8. i The Paloona arrived at Dunedin shortly after noon yesterday from Melbourne, via Bluff, and berthed at the Eattray street * wharf to discharge the local portion of her " cargo. The vessel reached Bluff late on Sun- . day night, and passengers arrived at Dunedin by train on Monday. Her cargo for this port amounts to 540 tons, and includes tranship- * amenta es the steamers Oreova, Indaixa, and 1 Ormonde. The Paloona is timed to sail at 2 ! jp.m. to-day for Lyttelton, Wellington, Kowcaßtle, and Melbooirne. A wireless message from tho Tofua states that the vessel will arrive at Wellington early this morning. WAIHEMO AT NAPIER. The Union Company's new freighter Waihemo arrived at Napier from San Francisco last night. She will later proceed to Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Sydney to complete discharge. Tho Waihemo, a steel-screw steamer, built by the Northumberland Shipbuilding Company, Howdon-on-Tyne, to the order of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, left the Tyne on December 6 for a trial trip. This is the third steamer to bo complotcd last year for. the Union Steam Ship Company by the builders. She is about 416H in length by 53ft beam by 35Mt deep, and has bean built under special survey to the highest class at Lloyd's, and will carry about 9000 tons d.w. She is constructed on the deep frame and girder system, leaving the holds clear, and has two complote steel decks including the shelter-deck. Water ballast is arranged for in tho double bottom and both peak tanks. Tho accommodation for the officers and engineers is placed in steel hoasea on the shelter-deck amidships, and the crew in .shelter_ 'tween decks aft. Nino steam winches with & large number of oargo derricks are fitted. Steam steering-gear of the WilEon-Pitrie type controlled from the bridge by tele-motor gear is installed. The propelling machinery, supplied by the Northeastern Marina Engineering Company Wallsend-on-Tyne, consists of tripkwixponsion siirface-oondencring engines having cylinders' 27in;'44in, 73in by 48in stroke, with three, so boilers, 15ft 6in by lift Bin, 180lb workingpressure, and fitted with Howden's forced draught.- The tr»l trip •provfed in every way satisfactory, and n speed! of about 11 knots was obtained.
