RAILWAY OFFICERS' PROTEST. (Pkb United Purss Association.) WELLINGTON, February 27. At a meeting of tho Wellington branch of tlie Railway Officers' Institute the following resolution was passed:—"That, in view of discontentment and dissatisfaction existing and evidenced by officers of the railway servico owing to tho present high and prospective higher cost of living, and tho inadequate remuneration said to officers, tins branch calls upon tho executive of tho council to take immediate action with a view to obtaining the finding oT tho Wages Board, and to have tho same brought into operation immediately. It a again pointed out that tho financial position of the railway officers and the conditions of employment aro having a serious effect upon tho efficiency of tho sorvico. Whilst the living cost on throe food groups alono has increased over 50 per cent., tho increases paid since 1914 to April, 1918, vary from only 7 per cent, in tho highest to 20 per cent, in tho lowest grade."
