TURNIPS FOR SOWING NOW. • The practioo of sowing some quickmaturing variety of Turnips, such as Devon Greystone, Mammoth Purple-top White, Lincoln Red Globe, and other kinds, has not up to the present received the attention that their usefulness warrants. These varieties can be sown as late m the end of February -with a reasonable chance of success, and under favourable conditions furnish a large amount of feed highly suited to the fattening of lambs or young wethers. RESULTS FROM QUICK-GROWING TURNIPS. The ohief advantages derived from growing quick-growing varieties are:—(l) They can be sown four weeks to six weeks later than most other varieties; (2) being 6oftfieshed, they are better suited to lambs and two-tooth wethers, whoso teeth are troublesome at this age, and consequently the«e kinds are. more highly relished by them, whereas the harder varieties would be quite unsuitable, -as the lambs, especially, would bo unable to breajc the roots owing to their teeth getting low by the time they_ are intended to be fod; and (3) being quicker maturing, they can be fed off at an earlier date, thereby rendering the land available for a cereal crop to follow. LATE TURNIPS ON LIGHT LAND. Some classes of lighter land are unsuitable for the cultivation of the yellow or hard varieties, while the whites, especially the abovo-nained varieties, can be successfully grown on almost any class of land, providing there is an abundance of available plant food within easy reach of the crop.
