Sir,—Your report this morning of Mr Diiricu.ii Oolquhoun's- meeting at Mosgiel last evcaiing especially singles me out as a quesuuner, ana states further that I received a blow on the cheek from a returned soldier. Unfortunately this wu s quite true, but I am sure the "digger" was sorry that he had hit me, because after the meeting was over ho shook hands with me to show there was no ill-feeling remaining. I can understand his position—namely, that as a very keen and enthusiastic supporter of Mr Colquhoun, he lost himself momentarily with excitement after I had asked Mr Colquhoun a couple of questions as to his connection with the Cramptcn court-martial at Wanganui. lam sorry the "digger" was put out of tho • meeting. It was possible he thought he would have the meeting to back him up, because of the apparent antagonism of the chairman to me, but as a matter of fact not only was the candidate quite willing to answer my questions to the best of his ability, but a number cf electors iii the meeting protested against the chairman's apparent attempt to "muzzle" me, and so prevent that "freo speech" about which we hear so much to-day.—l am, etc., J. S. Thomson. Dunedin. December 13.
