TAIERI MALE CHOIR

The first publio concert of the Taieri Male Choir was held last nfght. in the Coronation Hall, before a large and appreciative audience. Since its formation the choir has made good progress under tho cond'uctorship of Mr A. G. Haigh. His Worship the Mayor of Mosgiel (Air Wm. Allan) is president, Messrs J. Lusk and P. A. Cheyne vice-pvcsidcnts, and a committee of eight' governs the affairs of the choir. The members arc fortunate in their pianiste (Miss Jessie Swan), and this lady made an efficient and sympathetic accompanist last night". Tho part-songs rendered were "To the Death" [Alfred Wheeler), "Little Grey Homo in the West" (Hermann Lohr), "Three for Jack" (W. "H. Squire), "Comrades in Arms" (Adolphe Adam), "Tho Soldier's Farewell" (J. Kendel). and "Annie Laurie" (H. Elliott Button). The soloists were: Miss Kathleen Carter, "Sink, Bed Sun" (Teresa Del Reigo), and "Harbour Night Song" (Wilford Sanderson); Mr Roid, "Onaway, Awako Beloved" (Cowen), and "In an Old-fashioned Town" (Squire); Mr J. Leech, " 'Tis the Day" (Leoncavallo), and "Homing" (Teresa Del Reigo). Masters J. Haigh and J. Logan favoured with a fluto duet, and Mr A. G. Haigh played a violin solo, "II Trovatore" (Verdi). Members of tho choir also sang quartets and double quartets. All taking part acquitted themselves so as to delight the audience, tho latter showing their appreciation by hearty applmise. The choir is to be complimented on the success of its first concert. »
