HOSPITAL MATRON AND BOARD.
MISS THURSTON'S POSITION. (Pkb United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 24. An_ echo of the recent decision, of ths Hospital Board not to reappoint Miss Thurston to the position of matron at the Christchurch Hospital was hoard at the board's meeting to-day, when another letter was read from Miss Thurston. Miss Thurston acknowledged tho receipt of the sum of £125 which had b«n placed to her credit in the National Bank. " I presume," she continued, that three months of time, is in lieu of notice and three months fee leave of absenea is this board's intention. I would respectfully call to your notice tho fact that m 1914 tho board generously granted mc eight months' leave of absence on full pay, which, owing to tho war, I was unable to avail mysslf of. Probably this has been overlooked." Miss Thurston added that sho expected to be returning to Christchurch at an early date. Tho Chairman (Mr F. Horrell) said that prior to tho war Misr, Thurston had been given eight months' leave of absence as a holiday, but_s.no had, not taken advantage of it. Ho did not know whether sho was entitled to extra pay now. Mr J. Walter moved that Miss Thurston should be paid eight months salary. Sho had not had her holiday, and was entitled to salary in lieu of it. The motion was carried.
