NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that APPLICATION is intended to bo mado to the GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND, at tho Present Session thereof, for LEAVE TO INTRODUCE, on behalf of tho WESTERN TAIERI LAND DRAINAGE BOARD, a BILL intituled "An' Act to Consolidate Certain Enactments of the General Assembly and to Extend the Powers of the Western Taieri Land Drainage Board." Tho OBJECT which such Bill is intended to effect is:— (a) To extend the district to include the whole Taieri Plain, as described in the first _ schedule attaohed thereto; such district to be a district within tho meaning of "The Land Drainage Act, 1903 " and "Tho River Boards Act, 1908," and to bo divided into seven subdivisions as described in tho Second Schedule. (b) Providing for a Board of seven members to bo appointed by the ratepayers in each subdivision. C°) As. to tho preparation of the Ratepayers' (d) Tho number of votes to bo exercised by ratepayers. (e) Empowering tho Board to make and levy rates on an acreage basis; tho general rate to bo uniform, with a maximum of four shillings per acre, and special rate to bo on a scale graduated according to classification; and for hearing aiv peak against tho classification. (f) Making provision for collecting soecial rates already made. (g) Empowering the Board to do all such things as may in its opinion bo necessary to effectively cope with the drain-* ago of the district and the flooding of the Taieri Plain either from the surface , water or by floods and freshes m the Waipori and Taieri Rivers, or any of their tributaries. In particular, and without restricting tho general powers tho Board may erect or make any dam or reservoir _ in, about, or across ihe laieri or Waipori Rivers, or any of their tributaries, and exercise all tho powers of a River Board at any part of the said rivers or on any land anywhere in their watershed, whether within or outsido the district. (h) Providing a penalty for interfering with works. (i) Authorising tho Board to borrow bd to Bm™no lll -? DRED THOUSAND POUNDS without taking a poll of tho ratepayers. (k) Providing that tho charges on any loan or loans or maintenance of works shall be paid out of rates levied on various specified parts of the district; and (m) Dealing with Lakes Waihola, and Wai* pori as endowments.
