ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

<a(Pen United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 10. An elderly resident of Manurewa, Miss Mary Jefferson, died on Monday ns the result of poison, self-administered. The deceased was 78 years old. At the inquest the coroner returned a verdict that the deceased's will-power owing to her advanced age had been impaired to such an extent that temporary insanity ensued, under the influence, of which she committed suicide bv taking poison. GISBORNE, September 10. Thomas Bushnoll, the driver of the coach in the accident yesterday, died from his injuries early this morning. There was no improvement last m the condition of Mr John Smith, who was knocked down by a motor car on Tuesday night He is still semi-conscious. Driving from Duncdin recently Mr J. Hanlon had an unenviable experienco at the Kaka Creek (says the Oamaru Mail). Taking the wrong approach to the bridge ho struck the rails, cutting through a 6 x 6 jarrah post. The car landed in a concrete waterway 10ft below, and had to bo towed some- distance up the creek before it could be got out.
