PORT CHALMERS. This game was played on No. 3 Ground on the Oval. From the outset both teams were out to do their best. Port Chalmers got away from the lirst bully, but did not pass tho Gymnastic backs, who cleared, and shot the ball up the right wing to Harris. He in turn passed back to M'Leod, who took tho ball down to the circle and passed to his forwards. Carter was there to take it, and shot a goal. Port livened up after this, and pressed very hard, Hardy playing a great game for his side. Gyniuastic, however, got away again, and Harris found the net M'Leod, as usual, was playing well, and was ably supported by his lctt half. During the remainder ot tho first half Gymnastic did most of the pushing, and Marcussen scored again. During tho second half tho game was more even, O'Connell playing a great game for Port Chalmers. Gymnastic, however, got away with some good passing rushes, tne result beinjc that Harris and Hinton each scored. Worthy of note was tho marked improvement in the play of fort Chalmers. Al-. though including several now members,, the team showed good combination. The game ended: Gymnastio s—(Carter, Harris (2), Marcussen, and Hinton), —Port Chalmers 0. For Gymnastic, M'Leod, Hinton, Harris, and the left half played well, and for Port Chalmers O'Conneil and Hardy. CITY v. Y.M.C.A. This match was played on the Oval on Saturday under ideal weather conditions. Y.A1.0.A., not having a full team, was reinforced by two Union Club players, who h&lped materially to make the game more even than it otherwise would have been. City had the better of the opening stages of tho game, and kept Y.M.C.A. backs busily defending, but Wrather and Butler broko through all opposition, and netted two goals in quick succession. Y.M.C.A. had a turn, and made a raid on City goal, where MacPherson scored. Other attempts were defeated by the sound defence of Gardinor and Peters. The latter part of this spell was played in Y.M.C.A.'s twenty-five, where Finch was working hard to keep the Black forwards out, but a third goal was notched by Len Ireland, and the spell ended 3 —l. The second half saw City attacking most of the time, though at times Y.M.C.A. broke away, and invaded City territory. A hard shot was saved by City's goalkeeper, but from tho rebound Phillips rushed in and netted second goal for Y.M.C.A.. City returned to the qther end and three more goals were scored (Wrather 2 and Ireland 1), and the game, very efficiently controlled by Mr P. Foote, ended in "favour of City by 6 goals to 2. For the winners, Thomas, Peters, and Payton played well, while Finch and Phillips were tho pick of Y.M.C.A. team. B GRADE. Tho Technical School A v. High School B match was played on the Oval on Saturday, and after a very even game resulted in a win for Technical School by two'goals (both scored by Manley) to nil. The respective centre forwards (Manley and Ireland) played good games for their teams. SCHOOL MATCHES. Albany Street A defeated North-East Valley by 10 goals to 1.
