HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Society tor the Promotion of ino Health of Women and Children Committee was held yesterday; Jos. M'George (in tiio- chair), Lady Allen, iVleKianies iVioore, Theomin, Isaacs, J. C. M'George, Dunlop, Rattray, Solomon, Aiken, Champtaioup, Jackson, the Misses Joachim, Stewart, Gow, M'Dougall, and the secretary. Accounts were passed for payment. The matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported for month of May: —Admitted—mothers 5, babies 14; discharged— mothers 4, babies 14; deaths,. 1; greatest number in residence at\ any time—mothers 2. babies 15; in residence on May 31— mothers 1, babies 11. The hospital was c.'osed to visitors during the .month. One baby died during the month from prematurity, death occurring two hours after admission. Of the cases admitted during the month, two came from Kaitangata, the remaining 17 from the Dunedin district. Plunket nurses in training, 5; Karitane nurses in training, 11. Gifts* were received and acknowledged Irom the following:— Mesdamcs Johnstone, Moore, Theoirnn, and Arundel. The Plunket nurse for the South Dunedin district reported :—Babies on the list, 345; wholly breast-fed, 48; partly breastfed, 18; visits to Plunket rooms—Adults .150, babies 134. Mosgiel was visited four times during the month and Port Chalmers twice, the nurse being called to a special case. The general health of the babies in Mosgiel district was very good. G W Russell (Minister of Public Health) of a £ for £ subsidy, up to £1250. The committee accorded a very heartv voto of thanks to Mrs W. A. Moore for her efficient organisation of the society's bay at the Winter Show. Th c committee gratefully acknowledged the receipt of a cheque for £10 10s from the Central branch, £5 5s of which is donated towards the Central Council's expenses, and £5 Ss towards th« funds of the Karitene-Horris Hospital.
