THE PLEASANT VALLEY SANATORIUM.
TO THE EDITOB.' Sib, —In your issue of Friday last there appeared the following statement made by the Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Public Health: "It was admitted that there was need for another institution in the South Island, the Christohurch Sanatorium being full, and tho place at Paimerston having proved unsuitable." I should like to ask: (1) How long- tho Paimerston place lias been known to bo unsuitable? (2) Why was the institution not shifted to a more suitable part of tho country when the fact become known? (3) Is it not a criminal act, on the part of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to scoid soff-orers from tuberculosis to a place proved to be unsuitable? At present there are hi the sanatorium a number of soldiers "who have sacrificed their health while " doing their bit." Are they not entitled to the best treatment procurable? If so, why are they allow-ed to remain in such a pdaca.—l am, oto., Inquirer.
PUBLIC SCHOLARSHIPS IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS.
TO TBI KDITOR Sin, —I noticed in Saturday's issue a conclusive proof that Mr Hayward has had a " rcauvaiso attaque" of "Anti-Popery." His attack loft him so low in health that he was astounded to hear the decision of the Minister of Education with regard to tho two national scholarships, the holders of which wish to take them out in the Christian Brothers' School. Let our watchword bo that of Mr C. H. Hayward, "Liberty and justice to all." If Air Hayward adhered to his rnotto ho would see that all schools should have tho samo privileges and that tho decision of tho Minister of Education to send two inspectors to the Christian Brothers' School is to do justice ?o it.—l tim, cto., Johs P. B.
