Twenty masked men held up a passenger train at a wayside station in Limerick County, rescued a Sinn Fein prisoner, killed a policeman,, and severely wounded another. Mr Hartshorn (Labour) moved in the House of Commons a resolution condemning military rule in Ireland, and urged the Government to grant self-government and self-determination. . Lord Henry Cavendish-Bentinck supported the motion, saying that he had completely changed -his opinion. Ho believed that if the Government would thrust the responsibility on the people of Ireland to manage their own affairs and develop a national individuality, it would result in contentment, and Ireland would be the best- ? overned community in the Empire. The Chief Secretary for Ireland was engaged in a mere scuffle with the Irish people. Mr Macpherson (Chief Secretary) said the Government had dealt with enormous patience with the Irish-American delegation. The Government was anxious to find a solution. Ireland to-day was more prosperous than any country in the world Constitutionalism must be revived.
