DARGAVILLE WATERSIDE WORKERS.
TROUBLE ABOUT OVERTIME. GRIEVANCE SATISFACTORILY SETTLED. " XVUjX (Pee United Pkess Association.) DARGAVILLE, May 26 Quite a commotion was caused in shipping circles this morning when a report sEI that tho waterside workers loading the Svdrumour, a stop-work meeting being held for the purpose of taking a secret ballot arising out of the recent seamen and shipowners" dispute concerning a further rise in and other trouble m connection with overtime to be worked in loading steamers The men opposed working later than 5 o'clock Captain Mathieson took exception to this attitude, and a conference was then arran-ed to discuss the situation. The matter was referred to Mr C. Davidson (secretary of the local branch of the Waterside Worked Union), Captain Mathieson and the Mayor QP*. f;, E : Hornblow). These gentlemen went fully into the grievances of the parties lho Mayor addressed the men, and a further meeting of the union was held when everything was settled satisfactorily and the men decided to work overtime.
