CURIO STAMPS
Others besides philatelists will be interested to known that Sinn Fein and Bolshevist stamps were to be obtained in Fleet street, London, at the end of -March, though they were only being aols for. the . curio enthusiast and *not as legitimate revenue articles. v
A Daily Chronicle representative was shown specimens from an Ambassador's collection, which contained two of the 80l- t - shevist Republic, of. Russia issues. They were dated 1918, and wero for 35 and 70 kopeken. Each contained the same printed picture—a. hand (shown -to the wrist) grasp- • ing a sword and smashing the shackles of a chain. Behind was the rising sun, symbolical of the awakening. - ■ v There were three issues of the Sinn Fein !•; stamp at the declaration "of the first "re; ' public," and there were three designs^-•; one with a blue cross and tho. word Erin, one green and yellow, with the Irish harp, : ! and the third a shamrock leaf, the eeg- •• ments of which contained portraits of tiie three rebels who were executed and their names.
The late Austrian Emperor issued a set of stamps, the revenue from which was devoted to a widows' and fund!When the English abandoned Gallipoli the Turks issued a special stamp, showing the Peninsula and the Turkish crescent floating over the waters. ■ - ■ . .
