OTAGO EXPANSION LEAGUE

The monthly meeting of the Otago Expansion League was held last night. Mr Charles Todd presided. Amongst the correspondence" "was an invitation from the Motor Club to a conference in the Town Hall on Wednesday, May 14, which was accepted,' and delegates wero nominated. The question of the consolidation of the publio offices, which was moved by the league at the previous meeting, was again referred to by the presence of a number of letters from members of Parliament supporting the proposal. Amongst others one was received from Sir James Allen (Acting Prime Minister), who said: "Personally, I am in favour of the proposal, and desire to say that it will give me pleasure to bring the request before my colleague (the Mini si pt of Publio Works) for consideration." The Minister of Public Works, in acknowledging receipt of a similar letter, stated that he would, refer the subject to the Postmaster-general. _ A suggestion was received from the South. Canterbury Development League, Timaxu, that a conference oraJl South Island leagues should be held for the purpose of taking joint action in order to induce the Government to bring forward its scheme of hydroelectricity for the South Island. Timaru was suggested as a meeting place, and June as the time for such conference. The leagno accepted the suggestion, and axranged to send delegates to meet confreres from ether districts.

Arrangements ■were made iji regard to deputations to the Acting Prime Minister and for the luncheon to-day.
