FIRE IN A THEATRE
AN UGLY SITUATION AVERTED. (Pkr Uwitsd Pbkbh A.--=or:rATrot.'.i . WAIHI. March 17. A senoue outbreak of fire occurred in the engine room of the Academy Theatre on Saturday night- during a picture entertainment. Prompt action bj the firn brigade superintendent saved an ugly situation. The outbreak was caused by an exhaust pipe getting overheated -and setting fire to. the floor. The superintendent, noticing something wrong, left the audience and rushed into the engine room, where he discovered that the fire had a good hold. The brigade were soon in attendance, and subdued the fire after damage totalling £200 had been done. The superintendent at an early stage asked the audience to leave quietly, which they did, thus avoiding a panic. •
