SCHOOLS* TOURNAMENT. Tho Ot&go and TJni vacuity Courts presented a very bright and busy appearance on Saturday morning, Then the tot round of the events in the Schools' Tennis Tournament were played. No fewer than 90. young ladie3 from Archerfield, St. Dozninio's, Columba, St. Hilda's, and the Girle' High School took part m tho games, and a number of ladies and gentlemen who faster this branoh of sport amongst the juniors were in attendance to oontrol and umpire the Eets. The standard of play was perhaps not up to that of hist season, as a number of promising pl&}«rs left echool at the end of last term, but many of the sets were keenly contested, particularly in (die Championship Singles. Of the four left to contest this event nest Saturday Miss M'Kinnon, Miss Herbert, and Miss Barclay had tairly easy wins over, their opponents, but Mis 3 Walton secured her wins from Miss Jamieeon and Mifta Richardson' by one game only. In the handicap events a number of the wins were by two points only, and in the games between Misses Moloney and D. .Napier, Misses Cameron and Wilkinson, and Mjssea Kitcat and Gxorro, the SO-point game was not long enough to,decide the winners. iFiftyona sets wer® played during the morning, and the to&nament will be continued nest wock, when it is hoped to reach the semifinal rounds in aU events.
