KING'S THEATRE

A change of programme was effected at tho King's Theatre on Saturday, when at the afternoon and evening presentations crowded audiences viewed the big Fox film, "Tangled lives," and demonstrated their satisfaction. "Tho pleasantest event of tho theatrical year in New York has been tho discovery by the general public of Genevieve Hamper," wrote a critic, in reviewing the season made memorable by her extraordinary success in "Tangled Lives," and he paid a just tribute to her as "an actress of true and sensitive gifts, and of a' rare ideal of work, whose career has been important to all who care for the actors' part" Miss Hamper does not belio that eulogium. "Tangled Lives" is one of those delightful plays that keeps the interest from start to finish. _ The story is a pretty one, and exceedingly well told. It concerns tho love of a young and pretty girl for a 6mooth-tongiued villain, who endeavours to lure her away in order to use her- beautv to decoy the young idle rich, so that their money can bo taken from them bv means of bogus mining schemes. But the "irl's goodness keeps her from harm. After a general clear up, several of tho characters in the play are punished or rewarded, and the young lovers in the story are made hafrpy. Tom Mix, the cowboy comedian, appears fn the same bill in some hair-raising feats on horseback and in Roman chariots, whilst a 'Mutt and Jeff cartoon completes the programme.
