MINING.
The managers of the following mines re port:—Waitangi: Driving on the main reef in No. 2 level was resumed on January 6, and a distance of Bft has been driven. The reef is about 2ft wide, and the ore being ibroken is carrying a lot of heavy mineral, but is of rather low value. The' country, however, is showing an improvement. Kuranui: The installation of the electric motor and fan has been commenced. Work was started on Friday morning with three men. The site has been cleared and the timber is on the ground. Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines: Quartz has been trucked out of the Queen section, and timbering and filling has been done in Nos. 5 and 6 stopes The drain has been cleaned out in' the Julia No. 1 level to prevent water Jpercolating into the old etopes, and water pipes have been repaired. Extra accommodation for the men is being erected.
