Mr 'James Miller presided over the monthly meeting of the. West Taieri Drainage Board yesterday. Mr Munro, foreman, reported on the work done during the month. Mr David -Cameron applied for permission to cut down and. cart away willows on the river bank opposite the Outram power station. If permsision was granted he was prepared to out down all the willows from Mr F. M. Wright's boundary to —Referred to chairman and Mr Wylie. In connection with the proposal to purchase a dredge, the engineer reported the steps taken in the matter. Having failed to ,«>mo to terms regarding the dredge offered, he had, according to instructions, proceeded with the design of a dredge.—Received The Minister of Lands notified that he would visit the Taieri on Saturday, February L—lt was decided to commence the tour of the plain in the vicinity of Outram, and to work to the southern portion. The olerk was instructed to write to the City Corporation respecting workmen lejiv ing eatings of willows and trees near or in creeks. These were carried down by the water, and caused much inconvenience. Tie Chairman, and Mr Kempsheil reported regarding- a conference with the representatives of the Bruce County Council about clearing willows in the Waipori River. The council would contribute £10 to the cost and Berwick Domain Board £5, tie latter son/ carrying a Government subsidy. It had been resolved to spend £50 on the •work, amd the board's share would th-us be £30, This sum -would provide ouly for clearing the worst of the willows. To allow greater relief it was thought that some of the trees might be taken out by those needing the 'timber free of cost. Again, it was considered likely that some landowners might object to have the willow trees lying on the property adjoining the banks or might object to certain trees being cut.— Aocordingly> it was reserved to ask the foreman to interview certain landowners in the matter.

Messre Christie and Blackie appeared aa a deputation from the Taicri Cotmtv Council regarding a request for a road on the river bank near Honlcy.—After discussing the matter, it was decided that if &e couocil surfaced tbe road, the board woold keep the bank up to the required height.
