After the abortive conference dispersed, it is t understood the employers forwarded a written offer to the federation, and it will now be for the unions to accept or reject that offer.
- THE FRENCH MISSION CIVIC RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND.
(Pan Unrrsn • Pwusa AssooxmoH.li AUCKLAND, January 24-. The French Mission was accorded a civic reception in the Town Hall concert chamber. The Mayo.* (Mr Gunson) ■ presided. General Pau, in a speech of acknowledgment, said his health was quite restored:Ho remarked that, the' League of. Nations must be a league of those who had com mon interests and ideals, and who had fought together for right and justice. There ■were some who were not qualified to belong to. it. He and his colleagues' would carry away pleasant recollections of New Zealand. He had loye. and admiration for its people, and he could ,not' find words to expross what was in : his 'heart. He had admired this fertile and picturesque, and at times uncanny, country. The .work that had been accoirplished in it by only two generations of settlers showed a wonderful state of efficiency,' and if +,he .same ' tratr.tions were maintained in : the future it was not hard to roalise what that future would' be.. He .would make a faithful report to the French people, who admired and lovej the N©v equally with their soldicrs. and he personally wisTicd to.assure them of his own very deep feeling of esteem and 'affection.
