A GRASS FIRE
TELEPHONE CABLE DAMAGED.
(Prat Ukxted Pbebs Abbooiatioh.) , ■.: . CHRISTCHURCH, January 24. A spark from the engine of a passing train -ignited dry grass in front of the Post and Telegraph Department's , store at Addington today. The fire spread to 60 or 70 reels of telephone cable, and before iV was extinguished every one was more or less seriously damaged, though there will be some salvage. The loss will run into several thousands of pounds, the material not being insured.
