THE EJOSBUEGH-AIiEXANDEA MATT. SERVICE. TO TUB EDITOR. Sm,-—On behalf of the Roxburgh. Borough • Council, we may state that it was mainly through the efforts of tho Otago Expansion League that the above servico been retained, all due consideration being' given to Messrs Scott, LLP., and A. H. Tamblyn. The first that was roally known about the discontinuance of the service by members 1 of the oouncil was when a petition for its continuance was taken round for signer tures. We may state that the Mayor has almost from tho first, for about four years, been chairman of the Patriotic Society in Roxburgh, and in that capacity represented the oouncil. Surely "Ratepayer" will giro the council credit for monetary assistance towards patriotic purposes. if put in tho same position, might not do as well as those criticised. It is a pity "Ratepayer" saw fit to '%ide his light under a busheL" Public men and bodies aro always opon to criticism, fcut let it be fait.—Wo are, eto., • ' J. Lest. Rooney, JAS. Thompson, Councillors. Roxburgh, December-16.
