AMERICAN SHIPBUILDING
A GOVERNMENT PURCHASE. BRITISH SYNDICATE FORESTALLED. WASHINGTON, November 26. (Received Nov. 27, at 11.20 p.m.) It is officially announced that the United States Government will purchase 83 vessels, totalling approximately -1,000,000 deadweight tons, from international mercantile marine, thus preventing the ownership of vessels passing into British hands. An English syndicate -was negotiating for the purchase of the vessels.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
