FRENCH PAINTINGS AND SKETCHES.
TO TIIE EDITOR.
Sib, —I should like to dra.w the attention of the trustoas of the Dunedin Art Gallery, the Art Society, and all lovers of art in Otago, to the exhibition of French paintings and sketches and othor works of art being exhibited and sold in Christ-church at the present time .to aid the French blinded soldiers, who, alas! can be counted in their thousands. "While I sincerely hops all of the remainins' pictures will be sold in Dunedin, I consider that our art lovers aro asleen when they let the beauties of this collection go to the northern cities, to their art galleries, and art collectors, while Dunedin has unfairly to take the leavings. I know what has teen bought in the northern towns from this collection, and I can only say that if these exhibitors find no buyers in Dunedin for what is left on their" hands they must not blame the art lovers of Dunedin. 1 sincerely hope the lovers of art in Dunedin will giv© this matter serious consideration, but that for the sake of the French blinded heroes they will open their purses and do all they can.—l am, etc., . Map.skllaise. Chnetchurch, October 10.
