BRITISH RED CROSS.

THE "COPPER TRAIL" APPEAL. ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION! "Have I done my fair share towards helping to provide relief and comfort for the sick and wounded soldiers who are doing so much, for me?" You, are NOT asked for charity. Our brave boys want no one's charity, but they do expect that those who are so comfortably placed at home will help to provide the means for relieving those who are wounded, or fall sick in the service of our country. It is not enough 311 st to give. One must give proportionately to the prosperity and comfort they enjoy and the income they are earning—all of which have only been made possible bj the heroism, of British soldiers and sailors. LOYAL TAPANUI! Mr Chas. Todd, who has gone up to assist in canvassing the Tapanui district, wires to-day: "Over £2000 subscribed to date." It is hoped that other districts will realise their responsibility, and turning their back upon paltry contributions, unworthy of British people, emulate the splendid generosity of the Tapanui district. SCHOOL FLAGS. The "Red Cross" Flags for school children are now ready, and supplies may be had by school, masters and others interested by writing to the secretary, P.O. Box 90. Each flag costs 2s, and represents a subscription 'covering one yard of the "Copper Trail." These flags are to be sold to children only, so as to give them a share, all their ovm, in the great campaign. A VOIC-E FROM THEE GRAVE. A young Otago soldier, who has since made the supreme sacrifice, wrote to a friend in Dunedin on the 11th June last as follows: — "You Otago people all seem to bo giving " most liberally to the Soldiers' Funds "through the medium of the Y.M.C.A., " Red Cross, and othar organisations, and " I can assure you the soldier appreciates " all your kindnesses very much. By your *" generosity you inspire us in all we do, "aa we always feel that we have a great " backing in "New Zealand. This feeling I " think has been a great contributing cause "to ihe very high esteem in whicn New ' Zcalanders axe hold by all with whom " they come in contact here." Are you one of those whom this brave young soldier speaks of as most liberally " ? 26018
