RED CROSS WORK
ADDRESS BY LORD LIVERPOOL. Yesterday afternoon his Excellency tho Governor-General paid a visit to tho Red Cross Society's rooms in Bond street. Bishop Nevill, in tlie absence, oi the president, welcomed his Excellency, and spoke ot his goodness in stimulating all branches of patriotic work. In his high ollico Lord Liverpool had dono much in works that contributed to the well-being- of the. soldiers, the alleviation of the suffering, and tbo examination of hospital ships. Uis Excellency expressed pleasure at coming- to ,tho Lkinedin centre. In the coureo ot a short speech, he said that the work tho organisation was doing had multiplied and increased, and would go on increasing. If tho war ended to-morrow, or next year, it would not end the sqcioty's work. With the end of the war a still greater amount of work would be thrown, not only upon the society but upon tho wholo community. Ho wont on to speak generally of the work in -which tho socioty was engaged, making special reference to the functional and vocational treatment of soldiers, and mentioning what had been dono in this respect in different parts of Now Zealand. In reply to a question, Lord Liverpool said that at Rotorua. arrangements had been made to teach 14 trades, including leatherwork, carpentry, photography, and engineering. Proceeding, his Excellency dealt with the good work of Colonel Rhodes in England on behalf of the society, and with the activities of the War Contingents' Association in London. He also touched on tho hospital work in Cairo. It was necessary, ho said, to send a contrioution to the parent organisation. It ■would bo well to send a sum from New Zealand as a whole. Canada and Egypt had sent lump sums. On the motion of Mr E. Rosevear, a vote of thanks was accorded his Excellency for his address.
